Special Collaboration collections with Tina Ong of Religion Black and designer Raxenne Maniquiz were also produced under the Basic Movement Collections. Conversations A Fashion Talk and Workshop Series with projects such as a Panel Discussion on Filipino Fashion which featured Amina Aranaz-Alunan of Aranaz, Carl Jan Cruz, Rik Rasos of ProudRace, Kim Jones and Ken Samudio; and an Indigo Dye Workshop headed by Luis Agaid Jr. from the Namarabar Dye Community in Abra, Philippines.
Basic Movement was founded by accidental designer Esme Palaganas in 2015 as a side project before debuting in Manila Fashion Festival in late 2016. Born and raised in the Philippines, Esme has been involved in the fashion industry since starting as a PR intern for Philippine Fashion Week at 16. She envisioned Basic Movement as a blank canvas for collaborative product design with artists and artisans, and as an experimental platform for retail environments both off and online. As a PR associate to being a design consultant and eventually establishing her own brand and representing the Philippines in an international design competition, her experiences formed her desire in creating a different way of looking at fashion.
