Embroideries, bias cut strips, worked materials — this is beyond your usual basics.
Basic Movement reimagines clothes which aims to elevate everyday either for work or for fun. With masculine-feminine design sensibilities, here are clothes meant for the constantly changing, constantly moving dynamic woman. Basic Movement and our collaboration pieces are produced in limited quantities in the efforts of creating a sustainable production process.
Defined by her masculine-feminine approach to clothing with a playful approach to fabrication, Esme Palaganas is greatly inspired by complexities of strength + femininity. Her graduation collection earned her a spot in Preview Magazine’s 10 Emerging Fashion Talent List and Mega Magazine’s New Designers to Watch Out For in 2014. Shortly after graduation, she was tapped by fashion incubator SOMA stores to showcase and sell her clothes which led her designing for her own pret-a-porter line of clothes.
Palaganas debuted her first full collection in 2015 and was given the top slot in the Top Collections of the season by Preview Magazine (as well as her FW17 collection). In 2016, she was awarded a Special Recognition in Fashion Design at the 6th Philippine Fashion Ball and was listed as the Best Young Designer Brand in Metro Magazine’s Retail Awards in the same year. In 2017, she won the Philippine leg of the ASEAN-wide Air Asia Runway Design Competition, and was also a Bench Design Awards Finalist in the same year.
Esme earned her degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising at the School of Design of Arts, De La Salle – College of St. Benilde in the Philippines, graduated with honors. She has done several fashion shows and presentations in Manila, Philippines and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She is currently a postgraduate student in De La Salle University-Manila under the College of Business.
Esme continues her design work for custom clients and for Basic Movement.
Her collections are sold in select boutique stores in Manila, Philippines.
